Epirode 4 of Nina Paley's animated feature-in-progress, Sita Sings the Blues. Rama, Hanuman and the Monkey army have crossed the sea to Lanka to rescue the captive Sita from the demon king Ravana and his Rakshasas.
I am not an expert on Indian folklore, but this is fantastic! I love the attention to detail, the color scheme and the characters all fit the genre perfectly, but the greatest thing is the music choice-
I already wrote an e-mail to you, but let's have it here too. This is by far the most witty and charming animation I've ever seen on a classical Indian theme!
Who would have imagined one can leash old bits of blues to describe Sita's love for Rama?
Were Sita and Rama to view your production Ã¢ÂÂ and they certainly see and know all Ã¢ÂÂ I imagine a broad smile would find its way to their lovely faces!

I've seen several other episodes of Nina Paley's charming take on the Ramayana, and like the others, this one is excellent. It is just charming. The battle is true to the tale, and you've just got to love Sita. As for Rama, well ...
This is part of a rather extended work, and I await each new episode with enthusiasm.
